They've been way too expensive to really catch on, but they're getting cheaper. I'm pretty sure, based on how long they last and how little power they consume, they will take over.
Have you noticed more and more cars and trucks now use LED tail lights?
in fact I did notice LED in newer cars. I've bought some for my motorbike lights but they wasn't bright enough for my comfort, perhaps, I can fit the car 1156 and 1157 bulbs into the bike light.
